The Richland Police Department arrested multiple people wanted by authorities on Tuesday during an interdiction operation that netted suspects with active felony warrants, according to a report from WOOD TV.

Officers booked several individuals facing charges that included delivery and manufacturing of narcotics and felon in possession of a firearm, the police department said. One charge of carrying a concealed weapon was submitted to the Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for review, according to the department.

Serious prior convictions among those arrested

The warrants were not limited to drug and firearm charges. According to police, some of the arrested suspects had previous felony convictions that included sexual assault of a minor causing injury and kidnapping.

The police department did not release the names of those arrested or provide additional details about the locations where the arrests took place.

Police call it proactive community work

The Richland Police Department posted about the operation on social media, framing the arrests as part of ongoing efforts to keep the community safe.

"This is exactly the kind of proactive police work that helps keep our community safer," Richland PD wrote in a social media post. "Thank you, Richland Police Officers, for your dedication, vigilance, and commitment to serving and protecting our residents every single day."

Interdiction operations are a common law enforcement strategy. Officers use intelligence and surveillance to intercept individuals suspected of criminal activity before crimes are completed or before suspects can flee the area.

Residents seeking information about the specific charges or court dates for those arrested can contact the Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
