Axe Attack Leaves One Hospitalized, Suspect Taken Into Custody in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A 40-year-old man is in the hospital after being hit with an axe during an altercation on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred on N. Wabash Avenue, north of Capital Avenue NE, shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Battle Creek Police Department responded to the scene where emergency responders took the victim to the hospital.

The man suffered injuries to his chest and elbow and was able to give officers a statement at the hospital, according to Battle Creek Police.

Suspect Found and Taken Into Custody

The suspect, a 44-year-old man, drove off after the altercation but officers located his vehicle a short distance away. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the police department for questioning.

When police arrived, they learned that the victim and suspect knew each other. The incident remains under investigation by BCPD Detective Bureau.
