A woman died and a man was arrested for homicide after a dispute over a handgun erupted at an Oshtemo Township mobile home park on Sunday afternoon.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office responded to the Colonial Manor Mobile Home Park around 3:25 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports that two people were fighting over a handgun, according to FOX 17 and News Channel 3.
Dispatchers received multiple calls as deputies headed to the scene
Deputies were en route when dispatchers began receiving additional reports of shots fired in the area, the sheriff's office said.
When deputies arrived, they identified and detained a man believed to have been involved in the altercation, according to FOX 17.
Deputies discovered an unresponsive woman inside a mobile home. Investigators say she had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures at the scene. The woman was pronounced dead, according to News Channel 3.
Man lodged on felony charges
The detained man was transported to the Kalamazoo County Jail and lodged on several felony charges, including homicide, the sheriff's office said.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victim or the suspect.
The investigation remains active, the sheriff's office said.
