Kalamazoo police arrested a 21-year-old resident on Thursday after uncovering five illegally-owned firearms during an illegal weapons possession investigation.
The seizure included a semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine and a Glock handgun with a high-capacity magazine, authorities said.
KDPS Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team and Crime Reduction Team officers made contact with the suspect near Miller Road and Cameron Street. Officers arrested them after a brief foot chase.
A search of the person and residence revealed the illegally-owned weapons.
KDPS did not initially release any other details about the investigation.
The arrest follows a pattern of illegal weapons seizures in Kalamazoo. Recent weeks have seen multiple law enforcement operations targeting unlawful gun possession in the city.
The 21-year-old has a felony conviction on their record. KDPS did not specify the nature of the prior conviction.
Police said the initial investigation began near Egleston Avenue and March Street before officers located and arrested the suspect.
