Fire crews responded to a rubbish fire that spread into a residence in Galesburg on Tuesday afternoon.
The blaze started near the rear of a home in the 500 block of Holton Street. The fire spread into the structure according to a news release from the Galesburg Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the scene at 2:41 p.m. on May 12. They found flames on three sides of the home with active fire throughout the first floor. Officials confirmed that no residents or pets were inside the structure during the incident. No injuries were reported.
"Crews responded to a fire near the back of a home at 2:41 p.m. in the 500 block of Holton Street, according to a news release," KWQC reported.
The Galesburg Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire. Investigators are working to determine why the rubbish fire spread into the building.
"A news release from the Galesburg Fire Department said crews responded to a report of a rubbish fire near the rear of a residence in the 500 block of Holton Street on May 12 at about 2:40 p.m," OurQuadCities reported.
Acting Battalion Chief Kyle Harms established command at the scene. He requested additional on-duty personnel to respond to the incident. An emergency callback of off-duty personnel was initiated to ensure continued emergency response coverage throughout the city.
The Brooks and Central Fire Stations also responded to the call. Crews quickly extinguished the fire before conducting a search of the residence.
