The Ramp Closes Monday

Drivers traveling west on I-94 will lose access to the ramp connecting to northbound U.S. 131 starting Monday, June 22. The closure will last for approximately 60 days as part of a $13.4 million expansion project by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

The affected ramp is Exit 74B. Motorists will be detoured to the Ninth Street exit (Exit 72) to reach northbound U.S. 131, according to MDOT project details published by MLive.

One Lane Remains Open

In addition to the ramp closure, northbound traffic on U.S. 131 will be limited to a single lane between Milham Avenue and Stadium Drive. Construction crews are adding an auxiliary lane to U.S. 131 to alleviate congestion in the area.

Another ramp at the interchange is already closed and will remain shut until the project concludes in mid-September. That ramp connects northbound U.S. 131 to westbound I-94.

"The project's goal is to alleviate congestion in the area by adding an extra lane," according to the MDOT project description.

Who Is Doing the Work

Milbocker and Sons Inc. of Allegan is the contractor for the project. The work also includes installing a noise wall along southbound U.S. 131 to provide a buffer for homes along South 12th Street. That portion of the project is currently in progress.

  • Northbound U.S. 131 operates on one lane between Milham Avenue and Stadium Drive.

  • The full project is expected to be complete by mid-September.

MDOT advises drivers to check the Mi Drive map for real-time updates on closures and delays. All construction timelines are weather-dependent.
