# Open Roads Bike Program Opens Capital Campaign for New Edison Neighborhood Facility
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Open Roads Bike Program has launched a $750,000 capital campaign to renovate and expand its new facility at 914 East Vine Street in Kalamazoo's Edison Neighborhood.
The campaign aims to transform a long-vacant 10,000-square-foot building into a permanent community bike hub and youth development center.
Every contribution helps provide bikes, mentorship, hands-on learning, and opportunities for young people to discover their strengths and direction
Isaac Green, executive director of Open Roads, said the goal includes funds for building renovations, equipment purchases, and expanded program services.
A Decade of Bike Program Impact
Open Roads purchased the new home in 2025 with a loan from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation and its Impact Investment Team. The nonprofit has given away over 7,500 bikes and provided over 5,000 free bike repairs since its inception.
The program has also trained over 30 youth apprentices and sold over 1,000 affordable refurbished bikes over the last decade. More than 1,100 young people participate in Open Roads each year through mentorship, job training, and equitable access to bikes and transportation.
Plans for the New Space
The renovation will create dedicated classroom and shop space for the new facility. The space will also include expanded storage for bikes and tools, plus extended retail and open shop hours for the community.
Open Roads donated the building purchase and plans to use campaign funds for additional renovations and equipment. The nonprofit can be reached at (269) 365-9142 or through their website for donation information.
Community Impact
The Edison Neighborhood location represents Open Roads commitment to youth empowerment and equitable access to transportation. The campaign demonstrates how local nonprofits can leverage community investment to expand their service reach.
Donations can be made through the Open Roads website or by calling their main office. The nonprofit continues to serve youth across Kalamazoo County through its comprehensive bike program and youth development initiatives.
