*Child Care License Summarily Suspended After Investigation Reveals Multiple Violations*
HOMER, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) has summarily suspended Sarah Wildt's family child care home license in Homer following an investigation that uncovered unsafe conditions and violations of child care laws.
The suspension, effective April 3, comes after state investigators found multiple problems at the home on South Sophia Street in Homer. MiLEAP issued a notice of intent to revoke Wildt's license permanently.
What State Investigators Found
State investigators concluded that children at the home were at immediate risk, citing numerous violations including:
- Physical discipline and aggressive handling of children
- Unclean and disrepair conditions
- Lack of proper supervision
- Unauthorized adults present who did not undergo background checks
Corporal punishment is explicitly illegal under Michigan law. The state found that Wildt repeatedly failed to maintain a clean, safe environment and left children without appropriate oversight.
Unauthorized Adults Around Children
The investigation revealed that unauthorized people who did not undergo background checks were regularly present in the home. Michigan law requires comprehensive background checks before any adult has access to children in a child care setting.
"This was critical to take emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the children at this family child care home," MiLEAP stated in their order.
What This Means for Parents
Wildt has been prohibited from accepting children for care at the South Sophia Street location or any other location since 6 p.m. on April 3. The suspension order requires Wildt to contact all parents of children in her care to inform them that her license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide child care services.
If Wildt's license is permanently revoked, she would be barred from having a child care license for five years.
Wildt Can Appeal
Wildt has the opportunity to appeal the suspension. To learn more about child care licensing, regulations, or to file a complaint, the MiLEAP Child Care Licensing Bureau provides information online.
