Early Morning Blaze Requires Five-Department Response in Van Buren County
*COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Mich.* — Five different fire departments responded to an early morning mobile home fire in Columbia Township on Sunday, March 29, 2026, according to South Haven Area Emergency Services.
The fire was dispatched to around 3:12 a.m. on 18th Street near 53rd Street, west of Breedsville, SHAES confirmed. Officials believe the blaze started on the front porch and quickly spread throughout the mobile home structure.
Fortunately, the person living in the mobile home escaped without injury. Firefighters worked through the early morning hours to extinguish the flames and secure the scene.
Firefighter Treated and Returned to Duty
One firefighter suffered a cut to his hand during the incident. LIFE ambulance workers treated the injury at the scene. Despite the cut, the firefighter returned to his tasks and continued working with the rest of the response team.
The fire required mutual aid from multiple departments to fully respond and contain the blaze. This type of coordinated response is common for larger incidents in Van Buren County.
