A 29-year-old Plainwell man is behind bars in Calhoun County after Albion police found two firearms, ammunition, and suspected methamphetamine during a traffic stop last week.

The Albion Department of Public Safety responded to what they called a "suspicious situation" on Hall Street in Albion just after 8 p.m. on May 19, according to a post from ADPS.

ADPS conducted a probable cause search of a vehicle and located two guns, ammunition, and suspected methamphetamine, ADPS said in a post.

The Plainwell man was arrested and lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on five charges:

  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Felon in Possession of Ammunition
  • Possession of an Unregistered Firearm
  • Obstructing Police

According to WWMT News Channel 3, additional charges of possession of methamphetamine will be sought against the Plainwell man and a 39-year-old Kalamazoo woman.

The story highlights the intersection of firearm and drug enforcement in southwest Michigan. The man's felony history triggered enhanced charges for possession of both firearms and ammunition, adding to the standard concealed weapon and unregistered firearm counts.

The Kalamazoo woman's role in the case remains unclear. Law enforcement has not released her name or explained how she is connected to the Plainwell man or the seized substances.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office has not provided additional details about the investigation beyond the initial arrest information shared by ADPS.
