KDPS Arrests 22-Year-Old Suspect After Shooting at 601 West Maple Street

*Two 25-year-old men were shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries on Sunday evening after a shooting occurred at the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan Kalamazoo Regional Program and Training Center located at 601 West Maple Street in Kalamazoo.*

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) said the shooting happened shortly before 6 p.m. at the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan Kalamazoo Regional Program and Training Center located at 601 W Maple Street. KDPS said two 25-year-old men were shot and have been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 22-year-old man was taken into custody, police said.

Dozens of Officers Respond to Scene

Sunday after 5:30 p.m. dozens of KDPS officers and at least one ambulance responded to the nonfatal shooting that injured two adults at the Girl Scouts building on West Maple Street.

A crime lab was at the scene as of 6:30 p.m. Officers and a K9 unit were actively searching the area for the suspect. News Channel 3 also observed a drone deployed at the scene.

Building Will Remain Closed Pending Investigation

The building is secure and will be closed until further notice pending police investigations. It is not clear whether the shooting took place outside or inside the Girl Scouts building.

We are working with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety regarding the incident at the Kalamazoo Regional Center this afternoon, involving an outside group renting our building, Girl Scouts officials said on social media. There is an active police investigation ongoing and we are working with the police to support their investigation. No staff or Girl Scout members were harmed during the incident. The building is secure and will be closed until further notice pending police investigations.
