The Village of Vicksburg council approved nearly $958,500 in warrants during its May 18 meeting and moved forward with more than $212,000 in capital improvement purchases for public safety and infrastructure.

The regular council meeting agenda, posted on the village website, shows the board authorized $958,493.35 in warrant reports for general operations.

Police Department Gets New Vehicle and Radios

The council approved a $62,000 purchase for a new 2027 police patrol vehicle and the equipment needed to outfit it. The money comes from the General Fund Reserve.

The village also approved mobile radio purchases for patrol units. One radio that stopped working was deemed too old to repair. The replacement costs $4,264. Three additional radios for remaining patrol vehicles total $12,792.

Equipment Orders for DPW and Sewer Operations

The Department of Public Works received funding for several pieces of equipment:

  • T66 Bobcat Compact Track Loader: $63,948.08 from General Fund Reserve
  • L28 Small Bobcat Sidewalk Snow Removal Unit: $51,832.19 from General Fund Reserve
  • MyTana MS11-NG2 Inspection Camera for sewer and water pipes: $11,000
  • Sewer and Water Fund Leaf Vac Trailer: $23,259.95 from General Fund Reserve

The inspection camera system includes a combo kit with the actual cameras for monitoring underground infrastructure. The leaf vac trailer was built as a combo project with Premier Custom Trailers, Steensma, and a local welder.

Demolition Case Heads to Closed Session

The council entered a closed session to discuss a letter from the Village Attorney regarding the demolition at 513 Prairie Street. The closed session was convened under Section 8(1)(h) of the Open Meetings Act for legal advice.

Roadwork Approval and Event Requests

Staff recommended approval for Act 51 roadwork requests within the village for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The agenda noted a memo was attached with details on the roadwork.

The council also approved two event requests:

  • July 25, 2026: Clark Park, 1966 Class Reunion
  • September 20, 2026: HV Ground and Gazebo, Fall Bike Celebration

Parks and Recreation Plans Blue Zone Initiative

The Parks and Recreation Commission met earlier the same day at 5:30 p.m. The commission reviewed movie ideas for the 2026 Movies in the Park series and received a presentation on the Blue Zone Initiative. Members were asked to provide edits and additions to the proposal.

The next Parks and Recreation meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 22 at 7 p.m.

The regular council meeting was held Monday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. at 126 N. Kalamazoo, Vicksburg, MI 49097. Village President Tim Frisbie presided over the meeting.

Village Manager Mallery provided a report that included a review of the May 16 "BURG Birthday" event and noted the completion of the Leja House demolition.
