Record Numbers Hit Streets for 47th Annual Race
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The 47th annual Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon brought thousands of runners to Bronson Park Sunday morning, turning the city into a sea of athletic gear and determined faces.
Runners participated in the marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K Run/Walk, with over 5,000 runners registered for the event. Tens of thousands of supporters lined the streets to cheer them on.
"This event brings out not only our whole community, but we get to showcase our community with people coming from all over the country to see how beautiful Kalamazoo is," Zeigler Auto Group President Aaron Zeigler said.
Runners Come From Near and Far
The marathon attracted participants from across Michigan and beyond. One runner traveled from Indianapolis to participate in the Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon for the first time, while another runner told News Channel 3 they traveled from Oklahoma.
"This is more of a timing race for me, because I wanted to do it before the summer, and I wanted a qualify for Boston," Adam Chappelle of Indianapolis said.

Age Is Just a Number
An 84-year-old 5K participant named Helen Magas participated in her eighth 5K at the Kalamazoo Marathon, preparing by walking the track at the local YMCA.
"Just do the best you can," Magas said. "Everybody's so happy, so positive, it's just wonderful."
Not Taking It Too Seriously
One runner dressed as a hot dog with mustard to remind others of the fun and positivity that can come with community events like the Kalamazoo Marathon.
"We don't want to get too serious about it, so just, you know, put on a costume, go out there, have fun, and do your best," Dyami Hernandez said.
The Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon 2026 brought together runners of all ages, all abilities, and all backgrounds in a day of community spirit and athletic achievement.
