More Flight Options for Southwest Michigan Travelers

*KALAMAZOO, MI* — Air service from the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport (AZO) is getting a significant boost as Delta Air Lines announces a fourth daily flight each way between the region and Detroit's Metro Airport, beginning Sunday, June 7.

The announcement represents continued growth in air service for Southwest Michigan, coming just two months after United Airlines also expanded its operations to the area with a return to AZO.

"The number of daily flight options between Kalamazoo and Detroit is increasing," said Ryan Boldrey of the Kalamazoo Gazette and MLive, reporting on the development.

Expanded Schedule Brings More Flexibility

Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport Director Craig Williams said the additional Delta flight offers travelers more schedule options and shorter, more efficient layover opportunities, with improved connections through Delta's Detroit hub.

"Increased frequency means more flexibility for our passengers," Williams said. "This additional Delta flight strengthens connectivity to destinations worldwide and reinforces the importance of supporting local air service."

The airport continues to work closely with its airline partners to bring enhanced service options to the region, according to Williams.

New Flight Times

The updated Delta schedule to and from Detroit, beginning June 7, includes the following flight times:

Departing AZO and arriving at DTW:

  • 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
  • 11:42 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • 3:04 p.m. to 4:08 p.m.
  • 6:00 p.m. to 7:04 p.m. (new fourth flight)

Departing DTW and arriving at AZO:

  • 1:25 p.m. to 2:24 p.m.
  • 4:19 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.
  • 10:55 p.m. to 11:56 p.m.

Current Delta Service

The announcement comes as Delta currently operates three daily flights to Metro Airport from AZO, departing at 5:30 a.m., 11:42 a.m., and 3:04 p.m. The new evening flight at 6 p.m. provides travelers with an additional option throughout the day.

United Also Expands Service

The Delta expansion arrives just as United Airlines is also increasing its operations at AZO. United announced on March 23 that it would begin flying four flights daily to Chicago O'Hare International Airport starting April 30.

"As demand continues to grow, increased service out of AZO helps ensure that Southwest Michigan travelers can enjoy convenient, reliable and efficient air travel close to home," Williams said.

Economic Benefits for Region

The increased air service provides economic benefits for Southwest Michigan, giving businesses and residents better access to Detroit's business hub and connecting travelers to destinations worldwide through Delta's extensive network.

The fourth daily Delta flight strengthens AZO's position as a key transportation hub for Southwest Michigan, complementing United's recent return and providing travelers with more options and flexibility throughout the week.

With both carriers expanding service, the region is seeing a resurgence in air travel options that had been limited in recent years.
