A 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after police say a 27-year-old man cut him in the face during a fight at a Kalamazoo apartment complex.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the Lilac Hills apartment complex on Lilac Lane off of West Michigan Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from KDPS.

A Superficial Cut, a Missing Suspect

Investigators described the teen's injury as a superficial cut near his eye. Police said the eye was not punctured and the injury is not life-threatening.

The boy was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

Police deployed a K-9 team to help search for the 27-year-old suspect. The man had not been found as of Thursday morning, KDPS said.

Police Say the Two Knew Each Other

KDPS stated that the victim and the suspect knew each other. Police characterized the incident as isolated.

KDPS is continuing its investigation.

Residents in the Lilac Hills area reported hearing commotion from the apartment complex around the time of the incident, but police did not release additional details about the circumstances leading up to the fight.
