Five Guns Seized in Kalamazoo After Foot Chase Leads to Felon Weapons Arrest

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety arrested a 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident on Thursday after an illegal weapons investigation uncovered five illegally-owned firearms, including a semi-automatic rifle and handgun with high-capacity magazines.

KDPS Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team and Crime Reduction Team officers made contact with the suspect near Miller Road and Cameron Street. The investigation began near Egleston Avenue and March Street, according to KDPS.

Officers pursued the 21-year-old on foot after brief contact. A search of the individual's person and residence revealed the illegally-owned weapons stash.

The arrest comes amid ongoing enforcement efforts by KDPS against illegal weapons possession. The suspect has a prior felony conviction, which prohibits gun ownership under state law.

Among the seized weapons was a semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine and a Glock handgun also equipped with a high-capacity magazine.

KDPS did not initially release additional details about the investigation or the suspect's identity.

The Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team continues to focus on reducing illegal weapons in Kalamazoo County through targeted investigations and enforcement actions.
