A man is in critical condition after being shot during a fight that erupted in downtown Kalamazoo early Saturday morning, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

The shooting occurred in the 100 block of Farmers Alley shortly after midnight on Saturday, March 21, KDPS said. Officers responded to the scene after witnessing a physical altercation and hearing a gunshot near an event venue in the area.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle as officers made their way to the incident location. Minutes later, a 30-year-old man arrived at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound and was treated. He is currently listed in critical condition.

KDPS is actively searching for the suspect, who has been described as a black male in his 30s wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. Officers believe the suspect may have been captured on camera by event attendees in the hours leading up to the shooting.
