A family's ice cream dream lands on Texas Drive
*Roy and Jess Holmberg work at Stryker* in Kalamazoo. They also own a new ice cream parlor that opened on Texas Drive this month.
The couple built TC Scoops at 6894 Texas Drive in Texas Township after years of saving and planning. According to an MLive report by Ryan Boldrey published May 13, 2026, the Holmbergs had been "kicking around business ideas for a long time" before finally opening their shop.
From soft opening to lines out the door
The Holmbergs attempted an invite-only soft opening on Friday, May 9, 2026, just hours after the shop was ready. The plan did not stay quiet for long.
"People line up outside TC Scoops, at 6894 Texas Drive in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, on Monday, May 11, 2026."
That Monday, customers were already waiting in line at the new parlor, according to MLive's reporting.
How it started with a phone call
The path to TC Scoops began with a single conversation. Roy Holmberg contacted Schutz about purchasing land to build the family's ice cream parlor, according to the MLive report. The land deal set the foundation for what became a brick-and-mortar shop in Texas Township.
The Holmbergs used savings from their jobs at Stryker to fund the project. They chose a location along Texas Drive, a corridor that includes the Texas Township Farmers Market and other local businesses.
Why it matters for Texas Township
New businesses in Texas Township are not common headlines. TC Scoops fills a gap for a local dessert destination in a township that sits between Kalamazoo and Portage.
The shop's early success suggests demand for a neighborhood ice cream spot. Customers lined up within days of opening, signaling that the Holmbergs picked a location that residents want to visit.
