The Vicksburg boys golf team defended its regional crown on Tuesday, shooting a team score of 305 to win the MHSAA Division 2 regional at Coldwater Golf Course. The title marks back-to-back regional championships for the program, according to coverage from mlive.com.
The Eagles edged Parma Western, which finished second with a 307, and St. Joseph, which placed third with a 312. The top three teams from each regional advance to the MHSAA Lower Peninsula State Finals.
"Vicksburg won the Regional with a 305, followed by Parma Western at 307, and St. Joseph at 312. The top three teams advance to the State Finals, along with the top three individuals not on a qualifying team," according to reporting from WTVB.
Nineteen teams competed in the Division 2 regional hosted by Coldwater. The tournament took place on Tuesday, May 26 at the Coldwater Golf Course.
A Weekend of Local Golf Success
Vicksburg was not the only Kalamazoo-area program to capture a regional title that week. Schoolcraft won the Division 3 regional at Island Hills Golf Club in Centreville with a team score of 313, finishing ahead of Kalamazoo Christian at 315 and Delton Kellogg at 321, according to WTVB.
The mlive.com report noted that both Vicksburg and Schoolcraft captured their respective regional championships, while three other teams and five individual golfers from the Kalamazoo area also qualified for the state finals.

The MHSAA Lower Peninsula Boys Golf Finals will determine the state champions. Individual qualifiers also earn a spot at the state tournament. The top three individuals not on qualifying teams advance alongside the top three teams.
Coldwater's Jack Aker shot a 76 and finished seventh individually. He entered a four-way tie for the third and final individual qualifier slot. A sudden victory playoff was held to break the tie, and Jackson's Leo Nguyen won on the fifth playoff hole, according to WTVB. Aker was eliminated on the fourth playoff hole.
The Vicksburg golf program now heads to the state finals as a defending regional champion, looking to build on a season that has already delivered consecutive regional titles.
